Every self-employed person or business needs an email marketing strategy and by my calculation 90% of the businesses I come across at the very least try to implement one.
Mailchimp has been around for some time now but it’s branding and ideas keep it looking like a fresh new service. This and its Freemium business model have made it one of the most popular software to use and now they’ve introduced something new for us to use, Mailchimp Snap!
After downloading and giving it a test run, Mailchimp Snap could be seen as something revolutionary for business users or something really annoying for email subscribers and I guess it will boil down to how you use it.
Like Mailchimp itself, its really easy to use and the idea is simple. Take a photo of anything, anywhere and email it out your Mailchimp subscribers list. Take a look at the screen shots:
This may not seem so useful or revolutionary but I see this new app working its magic pretty much like social media does for business. It already has Instagram plugged into it so it could be picking up on its growing popularity. In any case here’s 5 different ways that I think it will be used.
1. Events and promotional selfies
I see many clients who take a selfie when there out at events and post them up on social media sites. Mailchimp Snap would allow you to do the same thing except email it out directly to your list as oppose to place them on a social media timeline, waiting to be seen.
2. Social Business Updates and announcements
Businesses learnt to take snapshots of new machinery and premises and convert them into social media posts. Mailchimp snap can post this out to your subscribers directly making the procedure of a social media post or email a much quicker ans easier experience.
3. Works in progress
Designers use a term called WIP (work in progress) to showcase ideas and work as their being built on upon. They can be more popular then the end products themselves so Mailchimp Snap can be used to give direct insight into your business as things happens in real time. Any creative industry from writers and designers to printers and sales can use Mailchimp Snap to promote the process of their work as it happens in real time
4. Education and research
When your out and about and see something worth noting down, you can take a mailchimp snap of it and maybe even convert it into a bigger post for later use.
5. Pure promotions
Email marketing is used heavily by B2C businesses to promote and sell products. Mailchimp snap could actually be another filter for these promotions, allowing an individual advert to be pushed to users directly without the fuss and development needed to create an entire email.
All in all Mailchimp snap is a tool that adds another layer of social and direct marketing to the digital landscape for businesses, putting whatever you want to promote right in front of your subscription list.
Its functionality is great in terms of simplicity and ability to reach your target audience but its downfall might lie in the very same thing.
Its so easy to take a photo as oppose to create an email newsletter so people could easily over use it and turn them selves into spammers with the use of Mailchimp snap. If that’s the case then it could dwindle down to how your subscription list reacts to it but as long as its used with consideration and moderation then I think that Mailchimp snap could be a winner.
